A “topping out” ceremony is a time-honored tradition held to celebrate when the last beam is placed during a building’s construction. Last Friday, Humphreys & Partners CEO Mark Humphreys and a group of employees including the architects who designed this signature Home-Rise® building attended a topping out ceremony for the last construction stage of HPA’s design project LVL 29. Located in the booming suburban business mecca of Plano, Texas, LVL 29 is the largest U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) deal in the Southeastern United States and the tallest multifamily building north of Dallas.

Ronald Butler, Senior Design Manager of Urban Architecture, worked on the LVL 29 design and participated in last Friday’s topping off party: “The ownership team is very proud to be delivering what will be the tallest building outside of the downtown Dallas area at 29 stories. This is the inspiration behind the name LVL29.”

On the upscale layout of this multifamily community and the deluxe amenities that will attract long-term residents, CEO Mark Humphreys shared some exciting insights into the structure, “Offering amazing 360 views of the surrounding area, the 328-unit LVL 29 building is a mixture of studios through very spacious 3-bedroom penthouse units all complete with a large balcony. The building has a spacious fitness center at ground and level 2 and includes roughly 1,600 sf of lounge space located adjacent to the 10,000 sf pool/amenities deck at level 8 with a featured pavilion and fireplace at the center of the space.”

A significant part of the topping off celebration involves placing a tree atop the newly constructed building. This tradition comes from ancient Scandinavian cultures and was historically done so to appease tree-dwelling spirits disturbed during the construction process.

Once completed, LVL 29 will stand not only as the tallest building north of Dallas but as an icon of HPA’s world-class skill for cultivating community through innovative design.
